Invisalign: Fact Vs. Fiction

Invisalign: Fact Vs. Fiction – Innovative Orthodontics

Have you been looking for a convenient way to treat your smile? Making clear aligners is an excellent solution for those who want to straighten their smile without the appearance of metal braces. Innovative Orthodontics is proud to offer Invisalign to our Pooler, Rincon, and Savannah patients.

Invisalign has been around for about 20 years, yet some misconceptions surround this popular alternative to metal braces. Below we will discuss the truth about Invisalign clear aligners and how they work!

Fiction #1: Invisalign takes longer to work than traditional braces

It’s essential to understand the difference between traditional braces and Invisalign. When entering orthodontic treatment, our team will generally present you with two options: fixed or removable appliances. Traditional braces are fixed appliances with brackets and wires attached directly to the front of your teeth.

Invisalign clear aligners are considered removable appliances since they’re not affixed to the tooth’s surface. These aligners are designed to be removed whenever you eat or brush your teeth, offering more flexibility than you’d have with braces. Because Invisalign is removable, it’s important to wear them as directed by our doctors. It’s also important to understand that orthodontic treatment of any kind requires patient compliance, but it is essential for success with the Invisalign system. Typically, you will need to keep the aligners in for 20-22 hours each day throughout treatment.

While the treatment time varies for each unique smile, on average, the total treatment time with Invisalign is anywhere from 6-18 months. Meaning that treatment time with Invisalign can be faster than with traditional braces.

Fiction #2: Treatment with Invisalign costs more than traditional braces

Clear aligners have been on the market for some time, making them more popular and accessible. Dr. Clayton and Dr. Waters will consider several factors before determining the cost of your treatment. However, treatment with Invisalign will typically cost about the same as traditional braces in our Pooler, Rincon, and Savannah offices.

Once your treatment plan has been finalized with one of our doctors, we will walk you through your payment options. It’s important to us that we keep your treatment affordable and efficient. Therefore, we will work with you to create a payment plan that fits your budget.

Fiction #3: Invisalign is more difficult to maintain than braces

We’ve already established the importance of wearing your aligners as directed by our doctors. But it’s also vital to ensure you follow a good oral hygiene routine. Invisalign is easy to maintain if you brush your aligners daily and care for them as directed by Dr. Clayton or Dr. Waters. Since Invisalign is designed to be removed when you eat, brush or floss, you have fewer obstacles to work around.

You’re also free to eat anything you normally would when in treatment with Invisalign. Say goodbye to the food restrictions of traditional braces, which are primarily on crunchy and chewy foods since you can remove your clear aligners while you eat.
